Regret
"What's your worst memory?
Close your eyes tightly and think back to that moment where you begged and pleaded for mercy
As life knocked the breath out of you
Do you remember It?
The desperation in your heart and fear in your spirit
When everything you put your faith in everything that gave you a sense of security
Turned out to be false
What did you do then, tell me?
How did you pick up the pieces of yourself, are you complete?
Did you cloak yourself with darkness and drown yourself in tears?
When you thought you couldn't bear the pain anymore what made you laugh
Did you lie down in our front yard wishing you could rewrite the stars"
Tears soaked the page as I scribbled furiously
I wish I could ask you this in person I really do
Dusting my skirt as I get up, tucking the note in the crevice of your headstone
Sobs racking my chest as I leave you behind in this lonely place once more
Plagued by memories of your beautiful faux smile that you hid behind
Those silent moments and long stares into nothingness
And how I figured out to late what they really meant.
