BATTLE

The night air was crisp and cool against her cheeks
Running her hands up and down her body to create some body heat
The night was silent as she forged ahead into the darkness
The only sound was that of her feet and nagging conscience
Seeing the dark figure sent a shiver of fear down her spine
A twig snapped beneath her feet made her want to jump and hide
She began to reconsider
Began to doubt and let fear take over
Taking shaky steps, her breathing heavy and uneven
She approached him
Dressed in black he was a creature of the night
His sword long and sharp, glinting in the moon light
Squaring her shoulders and dredging up lost courage she stood to face him
Forcing a challenge glint in her eyes and gaining a defiant stance
Removing her cloak, she was prepared for the fight
Years had passed since he took away her rights
It was time to get it back, no matter the butterflies scrunching up her insides
He took a step towards her, she was tempted to take 2 steps back
She stood her ground even as he towered over her, menacing and bad
Lifting her chin, he said "it doesn't have to end like this"
But she had hunted for him for too long, spent so many moments thinking about this night
And so the duel began
He fought without mercy
And she with passion
Breathing hard she looked at the crumpled form beneath her
Wiping the sweat from her brow she struggled to catch her breath
To decide whether to end it once and for all
She turned away from him and made a move to leave
She couldn't do it, couldn't take away his will
So she left, delved into the darkness
After all those years, finally reveling in the satisfaction
Of watching him fall
Shaking her head she forged on
Walking into the darkness, victorious yet uncertain and lost.
