Love Rain

What is it about rain
What is it about the slanting sheets of water that takes my breath away
Pressing my forehead against the cool glass
Wishing I could run out and play, like I was a kid again
Dancing to mother natures own music
The pitter patter of raindrops on the window panes
And it's thunderous clashing against the zinc roofings
The flashing of lightning like my own personal stage lightening
I remember the way the water felt runing down my face, curling my hair and soaking me to my bones
My teeth chattering as mama frantically called me in
Smiling now at the fond memory
Longing to experience again such simple pleasures but conscious of propriety
What is it about rain
That makes me feel so nostalgic
Turning away from the window, wheeling myself to the nearby bed
I feel the wetness through the paper thin hospital gown
Knowing the sky hadn't opened up in this tiny room I wipe away the tears
What is it about rain
That makes me want to cry out my pain
What is it about rain
That makes me want to change my fate
