SOS

I watched quietly as she picked up the blunt between her fingers
She she brought it to her lips painted the darkest shade of red
Her fingers shook as she gripped it with her teeth and wiped her hands on her sleeves
Her gaze found mine then a defiant glint in her eyes
Daring me to comment, to say a word , even judge
I pinch the bridge of my nose and close my eyes fighting back tears
Raising my head I saw her reach for the tourniqet
I covered her hands with mine and searched her eyes for the girl I used to know
Like she could read my mind, she lifted her lips in a nasty  smirk and whispered
" I was no Phoenix, you set me ablaze and I spread my ashes in the sea of my own tears "
Guilt clawed at me fiercely but I couldn't relent
She stood up and sauntered away, her walk unsteady
I looked at her in her ripped jeans and lumberjack tee and thought, what a beautiful mess
Picking up her bags I followed Her, a plan forming in my head
Of how to save her soul and bring her back from the edge
Turning around she faced me, crossing her skinny arms around her chest
My heart constricted, she looked just like her mother then
She said, " don't try to save me "
I nodded in agreement , but knew in my heart I was going to try with all my strength
Because saving her was the only way to save myself.
