Death by love

The air was cool and crisp around the grave yard
People stood side by side, still and dressed in all black
Solemn nods and wistful bowing of heads as they thought of what might have been
As everyone struggled to avoid looking into the still open coffin
Friendly strangers rose up to the podium to string words from nothingness and memories without meaning
Soon everywhere was silent but for  a low murmur ripping through the crowd as their eyes widened
It was you, clad beautifully in waves and waves of black silk
Holding in your hand a parchment with your distinct penmanship, my eulogy
Stepping up to the podium you began reading
You crafted lies and twisted truths till you had everyone crying
They were putty in your hands, as you told a tale of a man chivalrous and true
As you sold them on an enigma, a perfect illusion that I always was to you
And as you rounded up your speech, you looked up into the crowd
Like a movie star waiting for her final line before collecting her accolade
You whispered of how much you loved me and let a stray tear fall
I watched as you slipped your sunglasses back on
And you looked on as they put me 6 feet under the floor
The slight smile that crossed your features as you looked at the somber faces below
With a swish of silky satin you made your exit, a murderer walking freee
You'd achieved all that you'd set out to in the beginning
Played everyone for a fool including me
Sitting on this tombstone I watch you leave
You, my Angel, my demon and everything in between
The one whom I loved and who obsessed over me
The one whom I saved and who killed me
Walking away from the burial site, I might as well get acquainted
Because I am bound to earth by your betrayal and bound to you by our love
