The music bled from the speakers placed strategically around the dimly lit room
Stepping inside he looked around, how eerie it was almost like it was illuminated by the moon
The haunting sounds drafted across the room bouncing off the walls
He felt it before he heard it
That explosion of butterflies in the pit of his stomach
In the way the hairs on the nape of his neck stood on end
Turning he saw her
Her hair, once braided into two neat cornrows sticking out all over the place
Her face glistening with the trail of freshly shed tears
How her hands shook and her gaze was lost in the stars
He watched as the moon bathed her in it's glow
And she shone like freshly polished marble
He saw the sadness in her big black eyes
He saw the pain she fought so hard to keep inside
He felt his chest tighten and his jaw clamp shut
Swiftly, he turned to leave
The tempo changed and the music reached it's climax he heard no he felt the sob that tore it's way out of her chest
How her shoulders shook almost to the rhythm of the beat
And he felt his resolve give way and he went to her
His shoulders absorbing her sorrow as his shirt absorbed her tears
Picking her up he put her in the centre of the bed
Everything in his head screamed for him to leave then
Her eyes found his, so dark full of untold mystery and misery
And so he wrapped his arms around her and stayed
Burrying his head, he shed a few tears himself, for the girl who had always been his home
And to whom he'd never be anything more than a guest.
