Lullaby for a soldier
Running down the street, his breathing laboured, sweat beading on his forehead
Towards the future away from the life he led
All the while searching and pleading for Mercy
For every sin commited he had learnt a hard lesson
He felt like a hamster in a cage
Forever running but never changing pace
A hollow sound found it's way out his chest
As he dropped to his knees, defeat surrounding him in entirety
He didn't want to do it anymore
Outruning ghosts
The walls of the cage were closing in on him
He needed Grace
He felt his humanity slowly but steadily sinking down the drain
A cesspool of pain inhabiting his being
Memories of how he had turned his back on his father's teachings
He wanted to scream
Just then he heard it, drawing him back from the brink of insanity
That still small voice whispering deep within
The impact knocked the wind out of him
He cried then knowing he had not been forsaken
For the first time in weeks, he could finally breathe
With the knowledge that even though his demons were still chasing after him
He was still safely ensconced in the arms of the one true king
