Healers pain
Thump Thump the heart beats wildly
Running down the Grey halls praying loudly
Approaching the room a feeling of dread descends
As the EKG changes shape showing a flat line instead
Another Crack in the Shell carefully constructed
Turning around the nurses swarm in its a waste he's dead
Walking along the halls number not feeling
Looking back thinking hard mind reeling
Breath in short puffs suffocating
Staring down at the hands meant to bring healing
Out on the roof staring at the vast sky
Recalling all those years in med school trying hard not to cry
A cold blast of air right in the face
Beep Beep goes the pager dang another race
Bursting into the OR nurses give room
BP's dropping livers shot what do we do
Picking up the surgeons knife to make the cut to save her life
Offering up a small prayer a whispered word to the true healer
Sweat dripping hours later BP's stable
A smile forms glad that he was faithful
A bounce in the step feeling elated
Previous pain not forgotten but replaced
With an understanding that the loss the guilt the shame Is a doctors greatest burden
Awesome stuff dear
