Overwhelmed

Listening as the words struck with force resounding
Each syllable resonating with meaning frightening
My hopes and dreams up in smoke, my faith drowning
Wondering how I got so out of depth, in over my head and waning
Drained from the Sleepless nights lost that still wasn't enough to make it

Trapped like a mouse in a cage all senses on flight and fright
Looking for a window of opportunity to flee in search of my right
Shutting down, as the future seems bleak what was once bright
Running out of steam before a chance to shine my light
The weight of others on my shoulders heavy and steep
The hunger for approval all consuming and deep

Do you understand the hidden meaning behind these words
Can you see the pile up of broken dreams and forgotten expectations
For the drive to achieve came not from a choice but without one
Now the stakes are higher, the tasks tougher and I'm not able anymore

I want to run away with my tail between my legs and hide
Forget all that is expected of me and forgo my pride
But I know that despite these words I'll try with all my might
To put in my best, stay afloat and overcome the crashing tide.
