Payphone
Standing by the telephone, hoping I'd catch u at home
Putting on a fake smile, I picked up the phone
Click on the third ring as you said hello
Hello, Hello, you said repeatedly
Irritation seeping into ur voice, I smiled softly
Listening to your voice again feeling giddy
Tired of listening to me breathe u spoke up angrily
''who is this '' you said, I sighed longingly
Feeling your doubt as u whispered my name unsurely
Inhaling sharply, you'd discovered my identity
Meaning to drop the call you said '' don't '' and it stopped me
You knew I couldn't utter a word, U were content to listen to each other breathe
''I missed you'' you said as a fat Tear rolled down my cheek
You told me all your memories of me n I fought a grin
My smile fell as soon as you said ''
why did you leave''
''was it me'' and I was tempted to correct him
For truly it wasn't, it was all me
My fears, the power of my insecurities
Caused me to run from the future I'd dreamed
''come back'' he whispered '' I'll let you back in"
Startled as old fears began creeping
Making a choice, my first without thinking
Forcing the words out of my mouth before I could rethink
Squaring my shoulders I smiled and said "I will"
