Tainted rain

Watching her as she wept
Helpless to do nothing but stare
As she broke into pieces in front of him
And told him of dark days ever so grim
Opening up every last bit of her, confessing her sins
I clenched my fists for I could do nothing
Try as i might to abate the pain within
She was damaged dare I say broken
From the savage merciless beatings
Hurtful words and menacing sneers she'd taken
I wanted to fight rip something open
Hunt and capture those responsible
Offer up their heads to her as a token
If that would help her pick up the pieces
I was witness to her unravelling
And my inability to help scarred me
Sad that i couldn't do anything
To protect her and save her soul from the brink
Now she's gone over the cliff
Jumped into an alternate reality
Where she's alone safe with her dreams
Dark clouds hovering around her threatening
But i vowed then to protect her from the enemy
Stand by her side and do what he couldn't with ease
Be her guardian, her savior even if she was out of it
Locked up in her own cage made of painful memories
But i will stay by the gate never straying
Ready to defend her against insurmountable evil
For that is the only way she could ever forgive me
For taking away her hope.... For leaving
